This is a personal, bilingual blog (English / Nederlands) that contains most of my writings, thoughts, opinions, plus some pictures.

My name is Gert Jan Harkema and I am a PhD candidate at Stockholm University, Institute for Media Studies (section Cinema Studies). Check out my research profile.

My research project focuses on film as a new medium, back in the 1890s. It deals with history and theory. I try to explore what audience were experiencing when watching the newly introduced projected moving images. And maybe this helps to understand other new media as well.

My interests are pretty various: Film, media, and cultural critique.

Living in Stockholm, but originally from the Netherlands. So, I might post some cross-cultural perspectives occasionally.
